SDS Analyzer
Upload a safety data sheet and get the essentials in plain English: what the product is, its hazards, the PPE and first aid it calls for — with every GHS code and CAS number checked.
AI can make mistakes. This tool helps you read an SDS faster; it does not replace it. The original SDS from your supplier is the authoritative document — check anything important there. Nothing you upload is stored.

What the SDS analyzer does
The SDS analyzer reads a safety data sheet and pulls out the information people actually look for: the product and supplier, the GHS hazard classification, signal word and pictograms, hazard and precautionary statements, the ingredients and their CAS numbers, first aid, PPE, fire-fighting and spill measures, exposure limits, key physical properties and transport data. It then writes a short plain-English summary of what the product is and its main risks.
It is built for workers who need a quick answer before using a product, safety managers reviewing a stack of supplier SDSs, and students learning how an SDS is structured.
How it works
- Upload or paste. PDF files are converted to text; photos and screenshots are read directly by a vision-capable AI model.
- Extract. An AI model (running on Cloudflare Workers AI) is instructed to copy only what the document says and to leave a field empty when the information is not there — never to fill gaps from general knowledge.
- Validate. We check the extracted data against reference data: every H- and P-code against the UN GHS Revision 10 list (and show the official wording), CAS numbers with the check-digit algorithm, pictograms and signal word against those implied by the hazard statements, and ingredients against our chemical database so you can open a fuller safety summary.
- Flag. Anything that looks off goes into “Things to check”: unknown or withdrawn codes, missing pictograms, an SDS more than three years old, or missing sections.
What “Things to check” means
The checks look for common problems in real SDSs and for possible extraction errors. A flag is not proof the SDS is wrong — for example, US SDSs may leave out the environment pictogram, which is optional under OSHA HazCom, and EU SDSs add EUH statements that are not part of the UN GHS. Use the flags as prompts to look at the original document or ask your supplier.
Privacy
Your document is sent over an encrypted connection, processed in memory and discarded when the response is sent. We do not store files, extracted text or results, and we do not log document contents — only technical details such as file size and processing time. A bot check (Cloudflare Turnstile) and a rate limit protect the service from abuse.
Limitations
- AI can misread tables, merge columns or miss information in unusual layouts and low-quality scans.
- Pictograms are images; they are only detected when the document names them in text or the page is uploaded as an image.
- Very long documents are cut to roughly the first 60,000 characters.
- The analyzer does not judge whether a classification is correct for the product — only whether it is internally consistent.
Frequently asked questions
Is the SDS analyzer free?
Yes. The analyzer is free to use and does not need an account. To keep it available for everyone there is a limit of a few analyses per minute per network.
Do you store the SDS I upload?
No. The file is processed in memory to produce your summary and then discarded. We do not save the document, its text or the result, and we do not use it to train AI models. Our logs record only technical data such as file size and processing time.
Can I rely on the AI summary instead of reading the SDS?
No. AI can misread or miss information, especially in scanned or unusual layouts. Use the summary to find your way around the document faster, then confirm anything important — hazards, PPE, first aid, exposure limits — in the original SDS from your supplier.
Which files can I upload?
PDF files and photos or screenshots of SDS pages (PNG, JPG or WebP) up to 10 MB. You can also paste the text of an SDS. Password-protected PDFs cannot be read. For scanned PDFs without a text layer, upload photos of the pages instead.
What does the analyzer check?
It validates every H- and P-code against the UN GHS Revision 10 list and shows the official statement text, flags codes that do not exist or were removed, checks CAS numbers with the CAS check-digit test, compares the pictograms and signal word with those implied by the hazard statements, warns if the SDS is more than three years old, and lists any of the 16 standard sections it could not find.
Does it work for SDSs in other languages or older MSDS formats?
It works best on English SDSs in the 16-section GHS format. Older MSDSs and other languages often work, but more fields may be missing and the section check will show gaps. Always check the original.
